#JanetJackson is #Unbreakable

#JanetJackson – Ms. Jackson if you’re nasty – has announced a new tour.  It will coincide with her first new album in 7 years. I’m sure the title has a lot to do with the trials and tribulations that her family has dealt with.  Indeed, this is the first album she’s released since the death of her brother, #MichaelJackson. The entire Jackson family has been known for over 40 years for their musical contributions – either as a group or individually. Her coming back to the music scene brings back so many memories.  I grew up with their music throughout … Continue reading #JanetJackson is #Unbreakable

#OMI brings #Cheerleader and a #reggae beat to radio

OMI’s new song, “Cheerleader,” is all over the radio lately, and it brings a great reggae beat that hasn’t been heard in a while.  Combine that with Shaggy’s “I Need Your Love” (written about in a previous post), and you have the makings of a reggae comeback to popular radio. As I said in the earlier post, I previously lived in #Florida.  Specifically, I lived in #Miami #FortLauderdale and #BocaRaton.  Throughout that time, there was a vibe that I have yet to see here in South Carolina – until now. These new songs are bringing back the vibe I enjoyed … Continue reading #OMI brings #Cheerleader and a #reggae beat to radio

The #evolution of #music – #Madonna to #Maroon5 and #TaylorSwift and points in between

Some of my friends have recently said they don’t like the newer music from artists that have been out for a while.  Sure, certain popular artists have been around for a long time.  There’s Beyonce.  But, there are also artists like Ludacris and Pitbull. Every single one of these artists have changed their sound.  But there are a couple of reasons. Artists like playing around with new sounds.  They want to sound fresh.  Think about it.  When they do concerts, they often perform the same songs differently.  I remember going to a Train concert a few years back, and some … Continue reading The #evolution of #music – #Madonna to #Maroon5 and #TaylorSwift and points in between

#Shaggy is back with some love

Shaggy’s back in a big way with his new hit “I Need Your Love.”  Along with Mohombi, Faydee and Costi, Shaggy has returned in a big way. I remember listening to his huge hit “It Wasn’t Me” back in 2000.  Yes, he’s had some hits here-and-there since then.  But, at the time, I lived in Miami, FL, and it seemed that he was more popular in South Florida than he was in most of the country. He has always had a knack for bringing a great reggae feel to his music.  Whether it’s his classic “It Wasn’t Me”, “Mr. Boombastic”, … Continue reading #Shaggy is back with some love

So…I don’t think I want to dance anymore

Fox’s summer dance show, “So You Think You Can Dance” premiered season 12 on Monday.  However, there are definite changes to the show. Let’s start with the judges. Joining executive producer Nigel Lythgoe at the judges’ table are former “American Idol” judge Paula Abdul and popular singer Jason Derulo.  As fans of the show can tell, there’s one name I haven’t mentioned yet – Mary Murphy.  Ms. Murphy is no longer with the show, which upsets me and (from what I’ve read on Facebook and Twitter) I’m not alone. Murphy, with her hot tamale train and excitement, brought a lot … Continue reading So…I don’t think I want to dance anymore

Maroon 5 has hurt my summer

I’ve been a fan of Maroon 5 since their first album, “Songs About Jane”, came out in 2002.  I’ve followed them, and have loved most of their music.  One of my newer favorites is “One More Night.”  Some may know it as the “Ooh ooh song,” but I digress. When I found out that the band released “This Summer’s Gonna Hurt…” for the summer of 2015, I have to say I was upset.  I don’t remember them releasing a song with such a controversial title.  If you don’t know what I mean, just Google it, and watch the video.  There’s … Continue reading Maroon 5 has hurt my summer
