Today is Earth Day, the annual day during which we celebrate our awareness for our planet. While Earth Day only comes once per year, there are several things you can do to help protect our planet and preserve it.
- Recycle – Separate the trash in your own home. You can do this by setting out containers for plastic bottles, aluminum cans, paper and glass products. Doing so helps reduce pollution and energy consumption while also helping to reduce landfills. Your local recycling center can give you more information about recycling and other activities.
- Plant a tree – Not only do trees give us oxygen to breathe and shade. They also provide food and shelter for other wildlife.
- Donate – If you have unwanted items, share them with friends and family who might need them. You can also give them to your local Goodwill store or Salvation Army.
- Reduce unwanted food – The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has made food recovery this year’s theme.
According to the E.P.A., they have created a Food Recovery Hierarchy, which shows you how to reduce food waste. (See image)
Although this day is only an annual event, you can partake in all of these activities year-round. In doing so, you will protect Earth and allow the planet to keep providing for everyone and everything on it.
