Game two of the NBA Finals was last night, and the Cleveland Cavaliers won in overtime 95 – 93.
I won’t speak for anyone else, but I was disappointed with the performance from the Golden State Warriors – especially Steph Curry. According to NBA.com, he missed eight of his first 10 shots, and he didn’t do much better in the rest of the game. On the other hand, LeBron James had another triple-double with 39 points, 16 rebounds and 11 assists.
But let me talk about the one thing that isn’t being discussed much.
LeBron had 39 points because many of those points came from FOUL SHOTS! True, the man can shoot fouls. But, that is the most basic part of basketball – ESPECIALLY in the NBA!
With that said, how did LeBron get the opportunity to get so many foul shots? Obviously, it’s because he got fouled so many times! If Golden State played clean basketball, and didn’t foul LeBron so many times, THEY WOULD HAVE WON GAME TWO!!!
The other factor is this – if you’re going to constantly foul someone (and, yes, it was frequently), why foul the one person you KNOW will make most of his shots? Matthew Dellavedova, Timofey Mosgov, Tristan Thompson. ANYONE but LeBron!
Despite all of the foul shots from the Cavaliers, they only won by two points. Had the Warriors done ANYTHING ELSE, the game would have gone the other way!
