By now, most people have heard about Stephen Collins and his alleged confession to child endangerment. To say this was shocking to me is an understatement.
I was an avid watcher of “7th Heaven” on which he played the father. To know that this might have occurred is truly sad. I can say I’m surprised he’s involved. Unfortunately, I can’t say I haven’t heard of this before.
Whether it’s child molestation, drinking, doing drugs or any other sort of inappropriate behavior, it just boggles my mind that celebrities are doing this – and that it continues. Granted, everyone is human. But as Cris Carter from ESPN would say, “Come on, man!”
This kind of thing has to stop!
Yes, I’ll say it. Celebrities are role models – or at least they should be. Whether they realize it or not – whether they want the responsibility or not – people look up to them. People emulate their behavior. They need to set a better example.
Granted, parents need to step in when they see something they don’t like. I am not a parent, but I do think that there need to be guidelines that parents set and they do need to step in when it’s appropriate to do so.
However, celebrities need to realize that they affect the millions of fans that they have and everything they do is looked at by people – some of whom are quite young.
If a celebrity isn’t ready for that kind of responsibility, then (in my opinion) they should just retire from the spotlight. Everyone would be better off for it.
