What’s the deal over the Jameis Winston case?

We’ve been hearing about Jameis Winston for a long time – and, most of it is bad news. The problem is that the shenanigans haven’t just gone on for weeks. They’ve gone on for months.

For those not in the know, Jameis Winston is the quarterback for Florida State University and has been in the news for several issues.  There were reports of domestic violence, stolen items at a grocery store and a report that he jumped on a table and yelled out negative comments in the school cafeteria. There are now reports of his selling items for money, which is a big no-no according to the NCAA.

Whether the last one is true or not, the reports of his behavior keep mounting. There are now reports of his possibly being suspended.

I can’t – and won’t – speak for others. But my personal opinion is that he should have been suspended for a long period of time several weeks ago. Granted, he was suspended for the cafeteria incident. But it was barely noticed since it was one game. That’s just a slap on the wrist in my opinion.

To me, he just doesn’t get it. In order for the message to sink in, he needs a bigger punishment.

That’s where Mel Kiper, Jr. comes in.

Mel Kiper, Jr. – an analyst for ESPN – always discusses his “big board”, which denotes his predictions for the next NFL Draft. Kiper, Jr. had Winston at the #1 spot for several weeks. However, due to Winston’s behavior, Kiper, Jr. now thinks that NFL teams may look the other way. So much so that Winston has dropped from the top spot on that big board – and his stock may be dropping as the NCAA Football season goes on.

One can only hope that this and other issues finally helps it sink it for Winston. He needs to stop the shenanigans and start paying attention to football.
